The benefits of communications technology for patients with long term conditions “are obvious”, according to a set of guidance launched at RCN Congress.
The set of five RCN guidelines note innovations, such telephone advice lines, SMS text message and eHealth, can empower patients.
It allows care to be more tailored to patients’ needs and allows them to monitor their own symptoms.
It can also relieve pressure on staff and services.
But the guidance cautions that “services must follow best practice, be regularly monitored and maintained for quality of service and standards”.
