Tick-borne illness endemic in Europe

  • Comment
Nurses issuing travel advice should be aware that tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) is endemic
in nearly 30 countries across mainland Europe.

The Tick Alert campaign, which is funded by Baxter Healthcare, carried out a survey of 69 nurses at the RCN’s travel health forum conference held in September.

The results, released ahead of the start of the tick season in March, found that more than a third of nurses thought TBE was prevalent in up to 15 European countries, when evidence suggests the true number is 27.
