Trusts missing MRSA targets

  • Comment
Over one-third of NHS foundation trusts are failing to meet yearly MRSA targets, according to regulator Monitor.

Information in the regulator’s third-quarter report, covering the nine months up to December last year, shows that 24 of the 83 foundation trusts admitted they had already failed to meet their individual targets.

Moreover, 11 others were predicting they would not meet their targets, the deadline for which was last month.

Martin Kiernan, vice chairperson of the Infection Prevention Society, said: ‘Monitor should be reviewing the status of the trusts. If any of these trusts were to now apply for foundation status they would not get it based on these figures.’
