Unique nurse-led children's centre celebrates birthday

  • Comment

The UK’s only specialist children’s walk-in centre has just celebrated its third anniversary.

Nurse-led Smithdown Children’s Walk-In Centre has seen more than 56,000 patients since it opened its doors in April 2006. Specifically designed for the care of children with minor injuries and ailments aged up to 15 years, the centre treats more than 80% of cases presented to it without needing to refer them on to other services.

Veronica Bellis, clinical services manager for Liverpool PCT Walk-in Centres, said: ‘We are immensely proud to be at the forefront of children’s health services and look forward to building on the success already achieved.’

The centre was previously the Smithdown Minor Injuries Unit, which underwent a £68,000 refit in 2006 to turn it into a children’s walk-in facility.
