Unplanned pregnancy risk for women taking contraceptive pill

  • Comment
A quarter of women on the pill are risking pregnancy by having unprotected sex when they have run out of the contraceptive, a survey shows.

YouGov surveyed 1,956 women aged 18-24 over two days last month.

The Lloyds Pharmacy survey suggests that 1.6 million, or 64 per cent, of women aged between 18-24 take the pill. Of these, 426,000 still have sex when they don’t have access to a repeat prescription.
