A Cochrane review has suggested that a subcutaneous injection of pollen extract in people with hayfever can reduce their symptoms and the amount of medication they use.

The review analysed data from 51 studies of 2,871 patients and, although the authors consider the treatment safe, they recommend that it is not given to those with asthma due to the risk of adverse reactions. They also suggest that it is only given in clinics with full resuscitation facilities.
