The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency has issued a warning about urine test strips made by Makromed with expiry dates in 2007 or 2008.

The manufacturer has received five reports indicating a reduction in sensitivity over time with these test. The problem is caused by a packaging defect with the lid enclosure seal.

The agency said blood and ketone parameters may be affected and, therefore, there is a potential for false negative results.
