There is insufficient evidence to suggest that cryotherapy improves clinical outcome in the management of soft tissue injuries, say Irish researchers.

They reviewed all relevant human and animal studies on soft tissue trauma, ice or cryotherapy. This included six human trials, four animal studies and two reviews. The findings across the various studies proved to be contradictory.

‘There is insufficient evidence to suggest that cryotherapy improves clinical outcome in the management of soft tissue injuries,’ said the authors from University Hospital Galway.
