The medicines watchdog has asked nurses to stop using Portex chest drainage systems with anadjustable straw because of a risk to patients of pneumothorax.
The device made by Smiths Medical International may contain a tubing set that has been incorrectly assembled. The Medical Device Alert has gone out to all wards, including A&E departments and adult intensive care units.
The NHS Supply Chain code is FDR029 and the affected lot is 489962 of product code 200/870/000. Other Portex chest drainage systems are not being recalled.
