WHO rewards prison clinic

  • Comment
An innovative health project for prisoners in South Yorkshire has gained international plaudits

HMP Moorland and the genitourinary medicine department at Doncaster Royal Infirmary won a World Health Organization best practice award for their sexual health service.
Clinics are held in the prison, removing the difficulties of bringing prisoners to hospital and removing for prisoners the indignity of sitting in a waiting room, handcuffed to a prison officer.
The service is jointly led by a nurse in the prison service, Alison Woodland, and a consultant at the trust.
