Winter vomiting bug hits country

  • Comment
A diarrhoea and vomiting virus outbreak is sweeping England and Wales, the government’s infectious disease watchdog has warned.
According to the Health Protection Agency, this year’s norovirus outbreak has only been surpassed in severity by the levels recorded in 2002.

The agency said the norovirus season started early this year, with figures for November and December showing 1,325 cases. Five years ago, there were more than 1,800 cases.

Norovirus is common in hospitals and around three quarters of cases are reported in healthcare settings.
