Yorkshire nurse takes over as head of academic council

  • Comment
The Council of Deans of Health has appointed a new chairperson.

Sue Bernhauser, dean of human and health sciences at the University of Huddersfield, takes over from Professor Steve West who has become vice-chancellor of the University of the West of England at Bristol.

A nurse by background, Ms Bernhauser was previously Head of the Institute of Nursing and Midwifery at the University of Brighton.

‘It is vital to establish effective long-term strategic partnerships between health and higher education for the future commissioning of healthcare education,’ she said. ‘In England, in particular, we must avoid the boom-bust approach to student numbers and the raiding of education funding, which caused so much damage in 2007.’
